5.3 Which Materials Are Suitable for Long-Term Preservation?

A wide variety of packaging and storage materials are available for the long-term storage of collector coins and medals. Many collectors wonder which materials are suitable for the longest possible preservation and what should be considered when making a selection.

Not every material is suitable for storing coins and medals. Materials that are resistant to aging, release as few volatile substances as possible, and reliably protect the collectible from mechanical impact and harmful environmental influences are particularly suitable for long-term preservation.

However, the material alone is not the only decisive factor. The construction of the packaging, its processing quality, and the storage conditions are equally important. Even high-quality materials can only provide effective protection if the collectible is stored properly.
